DHL vs FedEx vs UPS for International E-Commerce Shipping

Each carrier has different strengths for international e-commerce. Here is how to choose based on your destination and volume.

DHL dominates international express shipping and has the widest global network — particularly strong in Europe, Middle East, and Asia. For B2C international orders where speed and reach matter, DHL is often the best choice.

FedEx International Priority is competitive with DHL for Europe and North America, with a strong presence in the US domestic market for the domestic leg. Good choice for US-based brands shipping to Canada, UK, and Western Europe.

UPS has strong coverage in North America and Europe, with competitive rates for medium-weight parcels. Their tracking and customs clearance capabilities are comparable to DHL and FedEx for most lanes.

For high-volume international shipping, negotiate rates directly with carriers or through a 3PL that already has negotiated rates. Retail carrier rates for international shipping are 30–50% higher than negotiated account rates.
