How to Use Slow Seasons to Improve Your FBA Prep Workflow

Slow sales periods are the best time to audit and optimize your prep process. Here is how to use them.

Q1 and Q3 are typically slow seasons for most Amazon categories. Use this time to audit your prep specifications — review every SKU's label type, packaging requirements, and carton configuration for accuracy.

Run a cost audit during the slow season. Pull 90 days of 3PL invoices and categorize every line item. Identify costs that have been growing faster than volume — that is where optimization opportunity lives.

Test new SKUs and prep workflows during the slow season when mistakes are cheapest to fix. A new product category with unfamiliar prep requirements should be tested at low volume before peak season.

Use slow periods to strengthen the relationship with your 3PL. Site visits, workflow reviews, and planning meetings are easier to schedule and more productive when neither party is under peak-season pressure.
