Kitting means combining multiple units into one sellable bundle — for example, a three-pack of the same item or a mixed bundle of complementary products. Each kit ships as one ASIN with its own FNSKU.
At a prep center, kitting requires pre-assembled components to arrive together, a clear kit specification showing exactly what goes in each bundle, and FNSKU labels printed for the kit ASIN — not the component ASINs.
The most common kitting mistakes are using component-level labels instead of kit-level labels, inconsistent bundle counts, and missing poly bag requirements on the assembled kit.
When scoping a kitting job with your 3PL, provide the kit BOM, expected unit count, FNSKU for the kit ASIN, and any packaging requirements. The clearer the spec, the faster the work.
